SMS Messaging Policy
Last updated: March 4, 2026
Effective Date
This SMS Messaging Policy is effective as of March 4, 2026. It applies to all SMS communications sent by BarnPilot to users, clients, and staff members who have opted in to receive text messages through the BarnPilot platform.
SMS Notifications
BarnPilot uses SMS to send operational notifications on behalf of barn and training facility administrators. These messages may include:
- Lesson reminders and schedule confirmations
- Training ride assignments and updates
- Daily schedule digests for trainers and staff
- Lesson cancellation or change alerts
- Supplement and medication refill reminders
- Invoice notifications
- Client daily lesson summaries
SMS messages are sent via Twilio and originate from a BarnPilot-managed phone number. Messages are transactional in nature and are not used for marketing purposes.
Consent to Receive Messages
SMS notifications are only sent to users who have explicitly opted in. Consent is obtained in one of the following ways:
- Instructors and staff: Enable SMS alerts through their profile settings within BarnPilot (e.g., daily digest, change alerts, 1-hour lesson reminders).
- Clients: Enable daily lesson SMS reminders through their client profile settings.
By enabling SMS notifications and providing a valid phone number, you consent to receive text messages from BarnPilot at the number provided. Consent is not a condition of using the BarnPilot platform.
Message Frequency
Message frequency varies based on your role and notification preferences:
- Daily digest: Up to 1 message per day (sent at approximately 6 AM local time) on days with scheduled activity.
- Change alerts: Sent as needed when lessons or training rides assigned to you are created, updated, or canceled.
- Lesson reminders: Up to 1 message per lesson, sent approximately 1 hour before the scheduled start time.
- Client reminders: Up to 1 message per day on days with scheduled lessons.
You will not receive unsolicited or recurring promotional messages. All SMS sent by BarnPilot is strictly operational.
Message and Data Rates
Message and data rates may apply. The cost of receiving SMS messages depends on your mobile carrier and plan. BarnPilot does not charge for SMS notifications, but your carrier may. Please check with your carrier for details on any fees that may apply.
Opting Out
You may opt out of SMS notifications at any time using one of the following methods:
- Reply STOP to any SMS you receive from BarnPilot. You will receive a confirmation message and no further messages will be sent to your number.
- Update your preferences in your BarnPilot profile or notification settings to disable SMS alerts.
- Contact support at support@barnpilot.com to request removal.
To re-enable SMS after opting out, you may reply START to the same number or re-enable notifications in your account settings.
Delivery
BarnPilot uses Twilio to deliver SMS messages. While we make reasonable efforts to ensure timely delivery, we cannot guarantee that messages will be received at a specific time or that delivery will not be delayed by carrier or network conditions. BarnPilot is not responsible for undelivered messages due to carrier issues, incorrect phone numbers, or other factors outside our control.
